MDSC Supports the American Heart Association

MDSC has collaborated with the American Heart Association in its endeavour to improve stroke care and outcomes in Miami-Dade County.

Hospitals participating in MDSC's initiative will be able to utilize AHA's Get With The Guidelines-Stroke® (GWTG) Patient Managment Tool. All data entered into GWTG will be viewable by MDSC. This process relieves a lot of leg-work in the data abstraction process by not requiring participating hospitals to aquire any additional software programs or having to train employees.

Get With The Guidelines® focuses on care team protocols to ensure that patients are treated and discharged appropriately. The program aims to help ensure that eligible patients are initiated on guideline recommended therapies and receive appropriate counseling prior to hospital discharge.

The GWTG-Stroke tool ensures continuous quality improvement of acute stroke treatment and ischemic stroke prevention and uses the same measure sets as the Joint Commission.
